The Growing Season – Book Review

I like to think of myself as a farm girl, even though we no longer have chickens and our garden has gone to seed. I still long to have chickens again and to pick fresh veggies in the Spring. I want my son to understand where his food comes from and that God is the ultimate Provider.

My friend Sarah Philpott gets me. She lives on an actual cattle ranch in Tennessee with her husband and a growing number of children who all seem to have her pretty blond hair.

You may remember Sarah as the author of the important resource, Loved Baby: 31 Devotions Helping You Grieve and Cherish Your Child After Pregnancy Loss. (I mentioned this book in my article, All Children Go to Heaven.)

Now, Sarah has published a new book, The Growing Season: A Year of Down-On-The-Farm Devotions, in which she encourages us all to trust in God in good times and in bad. Appropriately, the setting of this book is Sarah’s own cattle farm in Tennessee, where daily life is timed to the seasons and God’s provision is manifest. The stories Sarah shares are uplifting and often humorous, and the Christian applications are on-point. She also provides tips for baking, grilling, and planting, to feed our souls as well as our spirits. I’ve given this book a five star review because it seems like it was written just for me. And I think you may feel the same way.
